The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has failed to end the illegal parking of tankers across the city, with fuel oil carriers continuing to cause traffic chaos. The KMC had asked the transporters to move their tankers to the newly developed Zulfiqarabad Oil Tankers' Parking Terminal by December 12. But transporters paid no heed to the deadline, leaving the multi-million parking facility unused.

The KMC plans to approach the law enforcement agencies for the forcible removal of the tankers illegally parked in many parts of Karachi, a KMC official said. As many as 2,375 oil tankers can be stationed at the terminal at a time, he added. The KMC says development work at the parking terminal has been completed and all necessary arrangements, including police check posts and repair shops, restaurants and toilets are already in place.

But the oil tankers' owners say they are not satisfied with the facilities. He said the government held many meeting with the transporters over parking issue and tried to persuade them to park the tankers at the designated location. The official said the KMC had the option to have Section 144 imposed at illegal parking locations.
